Bonus “Service”. Google Workspaces
Strictly speaking Google Workspaces isn’t a GCP service as it is a direct-to-consumer SaaS offering running on GCP. However, I’m including it in this overview of top Google cloud services because it is the most significant alternative to the Microsoft 365 office productivity app suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.). This means that where large organizations have standardized upon Google Workspaces they naturally will have a lot of data (documents, emails, and calendars) already within GCP and so it may make sense to use GCP services. Using GCP in this scenario simplifies data management, enhances security through unified identity and access controls, and minimizes data transfer overheads (latency or egress costs). Using the same provider reduces operational complexity, can simplify compliance, and makes sense within goals for a cohesive IT strategy.
